History in Key Stage Three at Rosewood follows a varied curriculum which includes the Norman Conquest, the Tudors and Stuarts and the Industrial Revolution. We also take an in-depth look at the Slave Trade and how it has impacted upon the world today. We run a programme trips to enhance learning which include Black Country Museum, the Ironbridge Enginuity Museum and Quarry Bank Mill. The pupils selected to be Most Able at KS3 then have the option to study GCSE History which includes the Inter War Years, World War Two and English Castles.
Geography in KS3 covers a variety of topics aimed at giving all pupils knowledge and appreciation of the world in which they live. Topics include Natural Hazards, Glaciation and Developing Nations. We look to do a number of field trips during the year to coastal areas, glaciated landscapes and populated areas in order to examine the different key aspects of each setting. At KS4 we follow the Edexel Geography A GCSE which has been designed to give all pupils a practical and pragmatic overview of the world around them.
The focus of RE at Rosewood is to make all pupils aware of the different faiths and cultures that they will encounter in their lives. This is in line with Dudley SACRE policy which has been specially adapted to mirror the local demographic. We also look at difficult moral issues from the differing viewpoints within a variety of faiths to see how, not only they view controversial issues, but to also encourage pupils to use their own analytical skills to come to their own informed opinions.
The PSHE programme at Rosewood has been carefully designed with the assistance of Dudley LA and Dudley Public Health. We cover a variety of topics which are aimed to help all pupils’ progress into adulthood. Not only do we look at the practical side of becoming independent, such managing finances and selecting a career, but we also look in depth at the dangers of substance abuse and other addictions such as computer gaming. Our Sex and Relationships program has been accredited by Dudley as being Outstanding.
